There’s a Handheld for Everyone!
Let’s be real — if you’re even thinking about getting a retro gaming handheld, you’re already one of us.

Maybe you’re chasing that warm, fuzzy feeling from your first Game Boy. Maybe you just wanna kill time on the bus with some SNES classics. Or maybe you’re deep into emulation and wanna play everything from NES to Dreamcast on something that fits in your pocket.
Whatever your vibe is, there’s a handheld out there with your name on it.
You’ve got little square ones like the R36S that scream nostalgia. You’ve got sleek powerhouses (and chonky, too) like the Anbernic RG406V that handle PS2 games like a champ. Some are colorful, some are minimalist. Some are dirt cheap, some are kinda bougie. But all of them? They’re fun, oh, lots of.
And honestly, it can get overwhelming. So many options, so many specs, so many acronyms (TF card? SoC? TFT vs IPS??). That’s where we come in.
At gamehandhelds.com, we’re all about helping you find your perfect match. Whether you’re new to the scene or already knee-deep in custom firmware and bezel packs, we’re gonna have guides, reviews, and recommendations to make it easy (and fun).
So yeah — if you’re ready to bring retro gaming wherever you go, let’s find the right handheld for you. You’ve got options. We’ve got your back.
Welcome!
Handhelds we own so far
These are the handhelds that we are going to be focusing on, mostly. Help is appreciated!
What’s up, discord? 🙂

R36H
Unknown Manufacturer
Same as the R36S, but sometimes you’ll find them with WI-FI included. Almost everything will and should be copied from the R36S info.

The Anbernic Allwinner H700 powered line that has been everywhere and anywhere you see. Best with Operating Systems that are not Anbernic’s.

RG406V
Anbernic
A Unisoc Tiger T820 handheld powered by Android and with some great capabilities, but at the same time, some issues. Guess Anbernic never learns, huh?

RGB10X
PowKiddy
That’s a Powkiddy trademark. Cheap, brick-like and kid friendly. I’d recommend it for children, because even though they might not be the best, they resist.

G350
BATLEXP
If it looks like an R36S, feels like an Anbernic and runs like an Anbernic RG351, it’s not an Anbernic nor an R36S. This is the one that’s going to replace the R36S, give it time, buds!

RGB30
PowKiddy
Square, but not Enix. It’s a weird one because I can’t recommend it for anything but Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Pico-8, because of its 1:1 screen.

Smart Pro
Trimui
But don’t get the black one, as it feels cheap. The white one, on the other hand, feels premium, it’s really good at PSP emulation and is best known for it’s “oh, so different” feel to its OS.

Brick
Trimui
It’s… a small brick. Its 3.2 inch display makes it a great companion both on the go and off the go (you know, at home). Its AllWinner A133P means more power to you, too.

R36Pro, R36Max, football FN buttons and hearty start and select ones. Weird glitches and bad MicroSD’s. This is what’s all about with these consoles.

Who said Frogs ain’t fun? Just give it some love and some custom OS and you’ll have… well, a mostly disappointing device, but… hey! It has good buttons!

M17
SJGAM
This one has so many revisions nobody knows which one they have. With or without bezels, there was no need for the sticks, as it will play mostly up to – but not quite including – PS1.
